As a clinical social worker, it is my duty to give back to my profession and improve the social work field as a whole.

Outside of my own professional training, I focus heavily on training other mental health providers so they may become more culturally competent with the populations I serve. There is a lack of adequate mental health care for those who give so much and my ultimate goal is to promote a shift in this system.

I also work diligently to expand mental health treatment and education for first responders. I have provided trainings to first responder agencies in the areas of mental health basics, trauma-informed policing, crisis intervention/de-escalation, and first responder mental health.

I loved this. This should be a course all people take to raise awareness since this is something everyone could encounter- whether that is in private practice having a first responder as a client, working within the departments, legislation, a first responder family member, or even simply encountering a first responder in our daily lives. There will come a point in our lives where we will probably call 911 for help in some way or make a police report, we need to see that first responders are people too who also face challenges and need help in their own way. AND make it acceptable to receive help- not feel shamed.
